Anemones Cross Stitch Kit

The flowers in our cross stitch kit were from a painting, circa 1917, by my grandmother-in-law Alice Gordon which inspired this particular design, it is such a popular flower that I have my own painting which I may one day develop into another kit.

Did you know?

Anemones are a member of the Ranunculaceae family (which includes our much loved buttercup) they grow naturally in temporate zones.

Greek legend has it that the Anemone flower was formed when the Goddess Venus dropped nectar on the blood of her dead lover Adonis.

The Oxford English Dictionary states that the name Anemone means ‘daughter of the wind’ from the Greek God of the wind Anemos, the Anemone flower is often called the ‘windflower’

The Japanese Anemone is a large autumn flowering shrub found in many gardens, but our Anemone cross stitch kit is of flowers often bought from florists,  It is a popular cut flower and is in season from early spring, although it  can be grown successfully in greenhouses all year round.  It is a popular garden perennial and flowers naturally in late spring to summer.

There are many different coloured flowers ranging from  a deep rich red, pink, white and our favourite, deep vibrant purple, the flowers are especially striking as the centres have a deep smokey grey black boss of stamens in their centre.
