Orange – citrus orange

The orange fruit is universally popular, it tastes wonderful and is a healthy snack, low in fat, a good source of vitamin c and very thirst quenching on a hot day.  There are a huge number of varieties to choose from with Seville oranges being popular for marmalade.

Oil is extracted from orange tree flowers to produce neroli oil, a very popular scent which has been used in perfumes for centuries and orange essential oil is very popular in aromatherapy.

Another well know use of orange peel is for ‘discouraging’ garden slugs something I have tried with limited results.

Oranges are a lovely fruit, bright and cheerful and were the inspiration for my oranges cross stitch kit.
